Hard Rock Cafe moves to Times Square
The Hard Rock Cafe today opened a new flagship venue on Times Square with a traditional guitar smashing ceremony -- demolishing 100 Gibsons.
CityRag has the pictures, details and commentary. ("are the bricks for the old guys so they don't have to bend to the ground? that's so rock and roll.")
The new location is 1501 Broadway, at 43rd Street. (Map.) It was last occupied by a World Wrestling nightclub.
The rock 'n' roll memorabilia has been transferred from the now-closed 57th Street location, including items from The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, The Ramones and Elvis Presley.
Located in the renovated Paramount Theater, (where the Beatles, Elvis and Sinatra performed,) the Cafe includes a concert venue, a 708-seat restaurant, gift shop, and a patio above the Paramount marquee for private parties above Times Square.
New York's Hard Rock Hotel is scheduled to open "early 2006," a company spokeswoman told NewYorkology.
