Port Authority floats idea for new airport in NYC area
The New York City area may need a fourth major airport to accommodate rising air traffic, the head of the region's airports said, according to the Post.
"Whether that includes a fourth major airport, whether that includes additional capacity, all of those things should be on the table, and we're going to spend the resources on studying it intelligently because what we don't want to do is to see the problems that we have today at Teterboro," Port Authority Chairman Anthony Coscia said yesterday.
New Jersey's Teterboro, which serves private and corporate aircraft, is one of the busiest small airports inthe couontry, but it's seen three minor crashes this year.
The region's three main airports -- JFK, LaGuardia and Newark -- accommodated 94 million passengers last year, a 12 percent increase over 2003.
