Closed, but that doesn't stop Plaza shoppers

While The Plaza is closed for 18 months of renovations, shoppers have been able to get inside for its liquidations sale. Among those braving the mothballs was a writer from NYC Stories:

Extreme grandeur much faded by the closing of this hotel. I felt as if I was rummaging through the remains of a fallen civilization. Strewn about were shades of what had once been a great society. Clothing, bedding, broken furniture. Nothing seemed to have escaped the ravages of time and use. And yet, shining through the dirt were glimmers of gold. Dig long enough, you might yet find a gem. Here a gold rimmed glass yet unbroken, there a jacket from the Oak Room. A bit of imagination and the ballroom would come back to life, if for only a moment.
For those with allergies, you might be better sticking to eBay, where the prices are still jacked up. Among the pickings:

"Privacy Please" door sign (99 cents)
Plaza hotel silver buttons with logo ($11)
The Plaza 14K gold charm ($305.50)
The Plaza "collectable body wash new" - (99 cents)
The Plaza golf ball marker ($9.99)
Blueprints for 3rd floor renovation ($14)
Plaza hotel sterling silver pendant ($49.99)
