Big Apple Barbecue Block Party - June 11 & 12
The 3rd Annual Big Apple Barbecue Block Party is set to fire up along Madison Square Park on Saturday and Sunday June 11 and 12.
Since the crowds grew from 5,000 to 50,000 in the first two years, more food has been added for this year, according to the New York Times.
What do you get when New York City does Barbecue? In addition to the food, you get suggestions on wine pairings, a documentary film, and seminars featuring not only the cooks, but writers from the Wall Street Journal, food web sites, and Dan Rather.
On the menu:
Brisket with sausage and beans - Southside Market & BBQ, Elgin TX
Kansas City spare ribs with dill pickles - Blue Smoke, NYC
St. Louis spare ribs with coleslaw - Whole Hog Cafe, Little Rock, AK
Whole pork shoulders with beans - 17th Street Bar & Grill, Murphysboro, IL and Memphis Championship Barbecue, Las Vegas, NV
Whole hog with coleslaw, Ubon's BBQ, Yazoo City, MS
Pork shoulder with beans, Dinosaur Bar-B-Cue, NYC
Pig snoots - Smoki O's, St. Louis, MO
Plates of food will be sold for $7 each. However, there's also a $102.50 Bubba Fast Pass that allows one or more people access to the express lines at each booth, with $7 deducted for each plate. Only 750 passes available.
The Big Apple Barbecue Block Party runs June 11 and 12, noon to 6 p.m. along Madison Avenue from 23rd to 26th streets.
