24 hours of romance in Manhattan

mercerhotellobby.bmpTo celebrate our fourth wedding anniversary, my husband and I planned a 24-hour romantic Manhattan weekend. We splurged on a room at The Mercer, a classy SoHo spot that makes it onto the Tablet Hotels list of Top 10 Best Seduction Hotels.

My full review of The Mercer is now available at HotelChatter.com.

What else do New Yorkers do for a romantic weekend in their own city, you might be wondering. We did a helicopter ride over Manhattan, wine tasting at Vintage New York and dinner at a cozy French place in SoHo. At Grand Central Terminal, we whispered "I love yous" in the semi-secret whispering gallery, lunched at Cipriani's overlooking the grand concourse and made a quick trip through the Transit Museum's exhibit of New York subways, buses and bridges in the movies.

Lest you think the raunchiness was limited to the hotel, we also visited The Museum of Sex, Agent Provocateur and Toys in Babeland. Details on each of those in the coming days as I tease them out.

We had a list of other possibilities, but didn't have enough time: Central Park Boathouse lunch, picnic in the park or rowboat rental, salsa or tango dance class, a massage, Water Taxi at the Brooklyn Bridge, dinner at the Rainbow Room and a midnight visit to the Empire State Building. Alas, another time for that rendezvous.
