The Plaza closes for 18-month renovation

As the last guest left The Plaza -- with his Bernese mountain dog, Meip -- the famed hotel shut its doors yesterday afternoon. It will stay that way for about a year and a half as it undergoes massive renovations as the new owner of the 98-year-old property converts about half the rooms into condos. One suite at least will be maintained for storybook charmer Eloise.
