Taxi docket: credit card fares and $45 flat-rate to JFK

A number of changes are in the works for the city's 12,187 taxis, ranging from possible credit-card payments for a cab ride, to a flat-rate fare to JFK Airport.

A cab ride from JFK to Manhattan is already set at a flat-rate $45, but cabbies are now lobbying to set the same rate for the return trip, according to the Daily News. Although it would eliminate some confusion for tourists, it would mean that travelers coming from downtown would have to pay slightly more while travelers from uptown would get to pay slightly less.

The New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission is accepting bids for a system that would allow passengers to pay fares with credit or debit cards, NY1 reports. The system may also include vehicle locators, video screens so passengers could follow their trips.
