MaxDelivery gets you what you want within an hour

Reminiscent of the heady days of the Internet bubble when now-defunct Kozmo.com and Urban Fetch took orders online and delivered everything from fresh croissants and the Sunday New York Times to wine and electronic gadgets to New Yorkers' doors, a similar service is launching in Manhattan.

MaxDelivery promises within-the-hour delivery in parts of Manhattan - concentrated in downtown until the service expands. And they will deliver to hotels, according to the online chat NewYorkology did with a MaxDelivery rep this morning. But he also warned: "You should check with your hotel, however. Some hotels will impose a fee if an outside delivery is made to a guest. Obviously, we have no control over those fees."

MaxDelivery is stocking plenty of items a traveler might want delivered if their hotel's gift shop is lacking: deodorant, razors, antacid, contact solution, condoms, Ben & Jerry's ice cream, and coming soon - porn.

MaxDelivery only delivers from 4 p.m. to midnight but you can place your order ahead of time online at anytime. The delivery charge is $4.95; orders over $50 arrive for free. For a limited time, all customers get their first two orders delivered free. (Link found via Curbed.)

Update: MaxDelivery e-mailed with information about a $5 coupon for travelers. Just type in the code MAXHOTEL when signing up. The offer for free delivery on the first two orders also applies. (Though individual hotels might still impose a fee for guests receiving deliveries.)
