Queen Mary II to dock in Red Hook, Brooklyn

pier11and12.jpg
Super-deluxe Queen Mary II will start docking in Brooklyn NY1 reports. The city inked the Brooklyn deal with Cunard and Princess cruise lines.

Work has only just begun at Piers 11 and 12, which sits in the Buttermilk Channel across from Governor's Island. The spot offers panoramic views of the Brooklyn Bridge, Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. However, the Red Hook neighborhood in Brooklyn may leave something to be desired by passengers preparing to board the "world's largest, longest, tallest, grandest ocean liner ever." The closest neighbors to the current entrance to Piers 11 and 12 appears to be Canal trash haulers.

The ships will begin using a temporary facility at Pier 12 by September, according to the Daily News.

Update: The New York Times reports the Red Hook dock will also host the Queen Elizabeth 2, the Star Princess and the Crown Princess, which is under construction in Italy.

Earlier: Cruise ships to dock in Brooklyn later this year
