Louis Vuitton sues Chinatown landlord over knockoffs

Fashion designer Louis Vuitton is trying a new tack to close down the knockoff sellers in Chinatown by filing a lawsuit against a landlord who owns buildings where the illegal goods are frequently sold, according to the New York Post. The suit goes after Richard Carroll of Boca Raton, Fla., calling him the primary owner of seven buildings in question. From the Post:

Authorities seized 8,000 pieces of merchandise — including counterfeit Vuitton handbags, wallets, shoes, watches, jewelry and sunglasses — during raids at Carroll's Canal Street locations last year, the suit said.

But Carroll has turned a blind eye while merchants who operate at his locations continue to sell LV knockoffs, the suit said.
