Hotel QT: the bar's open, everyone in the pool

Too cool for a sign Hotel QT is indeed open - and so is the bar and the funky low-lit pool with underwater music. NewYorkology stopped by Times Square's newest hotel this afternoon to take a quick look around.
It's a rather boxy Ikea-like entryway with two young things manning what looks like a blonde-wood version of a subway newsstand. This would be your check-in desk, along with the place to buy your magazines and goodies to stock your own mini-bar. Proceeding around a sharp corner, you'll find the glassed-in room where the pool perches between a terrace on the left and the windows into the bar on the right. It's not exactly designed for swimming laps. More likely it's for pretty people looking for the perfect pretense to patter into a bar wearing only a wet bikini.
The pool is open 24 hours a day to hotel guests only; the bar opens daily at 5 p.m. to guests and non-guests alike. Room rates, which were going for a mere $99 online a few days ago, are slightly higher according to the rate card:
Room Type A - $285
Room Type B - $225
Room Type C - $200
Room Type D - $185
Room Type E - $165
Room Type F - $125
Room Type PH - $395
Room Type PHA -$450
Prices are for single occupancy based on availability and are subject to change without notice. $25 will be charged for each extra guest. Hotel tax additional 13%. 25 years of age and younger get 25% off published rates. The QT Hotel rate card also touts flat screen TVs with DVD and movies on demand, free high-speed Internet, a DJ in the bar every night, a gym with steam room, and yes, bunk beds.
The hotel is the latest offering from Andre Balzas, operates other properties including The Mercer downtown and the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles.
