A few cheap hotel options - with a salt caveat

Well, sure, everybody wants a list of good bargain hotels in New York, but who to believe? A story reported by the Detroit Free Press has a list of several options, though it also warns readers to "take NYC hotel reviews posted on www.tripadvisor.com with a grain of salt." Funny, considering the story also contains this phrase: "In Greenwich Village on 27th Street. ..." But what's a dozen blocks among friends?

So with a grain of salt, here are the Free Press' picks for New York hotels that are "moderately priced but also decent, spacious and well-located."

Shelburne Murray Hill
Hotel Beacon
Milburn Hotel
The Larchmont
The Excelsior Hotel
Jolly Hotel Madison Towers
Roger Williams Hotel

BootsnAll Travel Network has also just run a story with a similiar list of cheap hotels for New York:

Hotel 17
Carlton Arms
St. Mark's Hotel

Among hostels under $50, BootsnAll likes Chelsea International, Jazz on the Park and the YMCA on W. 63rd. Click through to BootsnAll for more information on each location.
