Time Out's beginner's guide to the Chelsea art scene
Time Out magazine this week carries a guide to culture for beginners -- basically an intro to the city's modern dance, opera avant-garde theater and contemporary art.
In demystifying the Chelsea art scene it encourages new gallery browsers to start along "Chelsea's miracle mile" - W. 24th Street. It recommends Gladstone, Metro Pictures, Andrea Rosen, Luhring Augustine, Mary Boone and Gagosian. And it has a few other must-see venues clumped together: the James Cohan Gallery, (533 W. 26th,) Lehmann Maupin, (540 W. 26th,) the Robert Miller Gallery, (524 W. 26th,) Clementine Gallery, (526 W. 26th,) John Connelly Presents (526 W. 26th,) and Greene Naftali (526 W. 26th.)
To keep up with what's showing, Time Out recommends the monthly Gallery Guide available at newsstands, Artforum and Artnet.
