How to get married atop the Empire State Building
Anyone and everyone can get engaged on top of the Empire State Building, but only a few get married on the perch up in the sky. And the only day of the year to get married on the city's tallest building is Valentine's Day. The rules say you have prove yourself worthy to get married at the Empire State Building: To join this prestigious group, couples must write to the building and explain why they want to get married here. Couples are then chosen on the basis of originality, uniqueness, style, etc. This coming Monday, eight couples will get married at the Empire State Building in separate ceremonies between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., according to Lydia A. Ruth, the building's director of public relations. From 25 entries, 16 couples were chosen -- but several have dropped out, Ruth told NewYorkology. Among them, one couple couldn't get to New York, two split up, and another had a "strange story."
But those who make it to the 86th floor on Valentine's Day will get the payoff of "the most romantic building in the world on the most romantic day of the year," she said.
