Here comes the Michelin man

In a dining metropolis already Zagated, Gayoted, Citysearched, Chowhounded, eGulleted, Menupaged, TimeOuted, and New Yorked, will the Gallic Michelin man trample through the streets like a King Kong-sized Stay Puft Marshmallow Man?

Indeed, the Euro-centric guide to top-tier dining is coming to New York as the Michelins will do their first U.S. food and hotel book beginning in 2006, the New York Times reports. The book will go on sale Nov. 15 and will cover 500 restaurants and 50 hotels in New York. The critics have already been here for five months, the Times reports.

The story's kicker:

Expect the guidebook to play down its French heritage.

"Our marketing department suggested that we call this guide the second-best gift from France to New York," (Jean-Luc Naret, the director of the Michelin guides) said. "I told them, 'Don't you dare.'"
