Harrods, Canyon Ranch maybe on Plaza's menu?

When the historic Plaza hotel reopens in 2006 as a condo/hotel/retail mecca, top tenants may include a Harrods gourmet food mart, Harvey Nichols and a Canyon Ranch deluxe spa outpost, the New York Sun reports today.

However, the April 30 closing date for The Plaza could be in dispute, the paper reports, as hotel workers expect several thousand people to turn out Thursday for a rally to protest the closure.

The Sun also quotes a "source in the real estate industry" who says Sotheby's and Christie's are in negotiations with the Plaza's new owner, Elad Properties, "to auction off the contents of the hotel after its doors close." The spring auction could include furniture designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, a bed from the Vanderbilt Suite where numerous heads of state slept, to objects from movies such as Alfred Hitchcock's "North by Northwest."
