Romantic restaurants, bars for Valentine hopefuls

With Valentine's Day a mere two weeks on the horizon, NewYorkology advises you not to buy your loved one a blender this year (as one friend did,) but to start planning the rendezvous before things book up.

NewYorkology sought out advice from Sheree Bykofsky, the co-author of books such as The 52 Most Romantic Dates in and Around New York City, Sexy City Cocktails and Popping the Question: Real-Life Stories of Marriage Proposals From the Romantic to the Bizarre. Bykofsky runs her own literary agency and a website with a Travel Corner. Her next book is Downtown Girls Guide to Wine.

NewYorkology asked Bykofsky about her favorite spots to celebrate love and romance in New York City:

Do you have any favorite new romantic restaurants? Murals on 54th. Unbelievably, it's a hotel restaurant at the Warwick Hotel. So named because of stunning murals. Extremely comfortable. Two dishes not to be missed: Clams appetizer and Chilean Sea Bass entree. That plus a dessert and all the varying wines you can drink "within reason" and the $59 wine dinner prix fixe is a true gourmet bargain.

How about a romantic place for drinks? The top of the tower at the Beekman Hotel has always been a favorite just for drinks.

What are the best places to get engaged in New York? Most of the places in my book, The 52 Most Romantic Dates in and around NYC.

Where do you do your pre-Valentine’s Day shopping? Tiffany, Bulgari, Mont Blanc, Costco.
