Pedicabs ticking off taxis and horse carriage drivers
With a recent proliferation of pedicabs -- now around 220 in Manhattan -- and concerns about safety and liability, the city is considering regulating the peddlers the same way it does taxis, limos and horse carriages, according to the New York Times. And yes, they were featured on "The Apprentice," but it pains me to mention it. They typically charge $1 a minute and are increasingly swiping fares that would otherwise go to cabbies or the carriage business around Central Park, the competitors complain.
The story also mentions the newest transport gimmick: a red seven-person, passenger-powered PartyBike available for rent in Times Square.
