Newest Staten Island Ferry to begin service today

The newest Staten Island ferry, the Guy V. Molinari, will begin service today, NY1 and the Daily News report. Molinari was borough president of Staten Island from 1990 to 2001 and also served in the U.S. House of Representatives and the state Assembly.

The city's Staten Island Ferry info page has schedule details and links to video of the ship's September arrival to New York Harbor. The ferry ride is always free, offering stellar views of the harbor and the Statue of Liberty.

Update: Careful out there. The decks of the new ship are so slippery that six people fell while boarding for the Molinari's maiden voyage, the Staten Island Advance reports. Oh, and the new PA system is too scratchy and the boat apparently rocks more than the othere ferries in the fleet.
