Hard Rock: go for the guitars, avoid the food
My 8-year-old stepson started playing the electric guitar a few months ago and yesterday was the first time (probably the only,) we took him to the Hard Rock Café.
“Wow,” was what he had to say after much thought, his eyes scanning all the guitars, drums and costumes covering the walls at the 57th Street outpost of the chain restaurant.
I should say the food was bad and the service was pretty good – but that’s not really why you go, now is it? The staff was entirely fine with letting customers walk around gawking at the walls, even the VIP room upstairs had its doors propped open so you could check out the New Jersey wall (Sinatra, Springsteen and Bon Jovi.) The step-lad was particularly keen on the hand-written lyrics to Hendrix’s “Bold as Love,” George Harrison’s acoustic guitar and a smallish Paul McCartney bass. The Hard Rock’s web site lists what it considers the Top 10 items at the NYC restaurant, including the TWA flight bags the Beatles used on their 1965 trip - each inscribed with the band member's name.
