Circle Line ferry trips to LaGuardia to start at midyear

(Update: As of June 2008, there is still no ferry service to LaGuardia. Circle Line abandoned the airport ferry in 2006 while it was still in the planning stages. In May 2008, the city said it will spend $500,000 to study new ferry service, including to LaGuardia.)

Circle Line Harbor Cruises plans to begin offering a 30-minute, $25 ferry trip from Manhattan to LaGuardia airport beginning midyear, the New York Times reports. A high-speed ferry would run every 30 minutes from Pier 11 at Wall Street, stop at 34th Street and then to LaGuardia's Marine Air Terminal, which is home to the Delta Shuttle. Passengers could then take a bus to other LaGuardia terminals from there.

Delta Air Lines and New York Waterway offered a similair service until 2000. Circle Line is expecting 400 to 500 passengers a day in its first year, about double the Delta Water Shuttle, the Times reports.

Ferry service is also planned for Kennedy International Airport beginning in 2006.
