Memorial architects enhance towers' footprints

Architects for the Sept. 11 memorial presented updated plans for the project, which is scheduled for completion in 2009. From the New York Times:

Perhaps the most significant development is the incorporation of the column remnants around the north tower footprint. These hollow steel boxes set in concrete will emerge from the floors of long galleries with 20-foot ceilings. On the west, the column gallery will open into a far taller chamber that will frame a giant section of the slurry wall, illuminated by a skylight.
