LeCirque 2000 closing on last night of 2004

Le Cirque 2000, which has been one of my favorite restaurants in the city, will close down tonight, citing, in part, a downturn in business since Sept. 11. The New York Times story, oddly, says owner Sirio Maccioni “plans to reopen but is vague about where and when.” Though both New York magazine and the Post reported in November that Maccioni & Co. plan to open on Central Park South in 2005.
