Carnivore's guide to New York from Mr. Cutlets

While I was at the Small Press Center's annual book fair on Sunday, I got a generous discount on a copy of “Meat Me in Manhattan,” a guide to eating, ordering and buying hunks of stuff to go with your potatoes.

Although the book does include reviews along the lines of “boo-yeah!,” there is much to chew on. Mr. Cutlets spends a day shopping with the owner of Peter Luger, as she personally selects cuts of meat at Walmir Meat Co. by marking them with “4 F 4” – the family’s seal. “We get first pick of the prime. We pay more than anyone else – that’s the whole reason we have the kind of meat we do,” Jody Speira Storch tells Mr. Cutlets.

His four-star awards go to: Luger, (porterhouse,) Sammy’s Roumanian (steak strip, chopped liver,) Churrascaria Plataforma, (meats of note: “all,”) Daniel, Katz’s, (pastrami, salami, hot dogs, corned beef,) Sparks Steak House, ( New York strip,) and Gramercy Tavern, (roasted rib steak, braised short ribs and foie gras.)

Mr. Cutlets has his own webpage but be warned, it runs music that frightened my meat-loving cat.
