Sipping in 'Napa Valley of the East'
With 35 wineries in two-hour driving distance of Manhattan, the Hudson Valley is trying to grow into 'Napa Valley of the East,' the New York Times reports. The region has a mere 500 acres of grapes and statewide, ranks behind both the Finger Lakes and Long Island wine regions. "To lure more customers into tasting rooms, local winemakers are angling for a more unified and sophisticated identity, one in which the Hudson Valley appellation connotes quality rather than affordability," the story says. Sure, that should work -- just raise the price. The NYT picks: Alison Wines and Vineyards, Brotherhood Winery, Glorie Farm Winery, Millbrook Vineyards and Winery and Rivendale Winery.
