Public art on the rise thanks to Bloomberg

Mayor Bloomberg gets a pat on the back in the New York Times today for bringing public art back to the city. In the past three years, "the number of temporary public art installations around the city has more than doubled, to 49 pieces by 38 different artists, the greatest number in two decades," the Times reports. He's also credited with getting the greenlight for the upcoming plan by Christo and Jeanne-Claude to drape Central Park in fabric. The project, "The Gates", will open in February.
