Friday night at the Met Museum: art, drinks, music

On Friday evening I made it up to the Met Museum with a girlfriend to catch up and take in a little culture on the side. We met in the main lobby at 6 and marched up the grand staircase and made a U-turn at the top, heading for the piano -- and the bar. Seated across from part of the permanent collection of Asian arts, we shared a plate of artisanal cheeses and went for beer and wine instead of their Met Mojitos. By the time we finished our drinks, people were standing around waiting for tables to open up. We took in part of the permanent collections of the Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Southeast Asian sections and had plenty of time to get wowed by the new and surprisingly uncrowded "China: Dawn of a Golden Age, 200 - 750 AD". Real silk from the Silk Road, inebriated revelers immortalized in a sarcophagus panel, and enough camels, horses and other beasts sure to delight the young ones.
