'Birdman' of the Empire State Building

The New York Times today writes about researcher Robert DeCandido, the "Birdman" of the Empire State Building, and his study of migrating birds. He's seen peregrine falcons, osprey, great blue herons, cuckoos and even bats. As it turns out, not once has he seen one slam into the building though he has seen the falcons turn the other birds into late-night snacks. On busy nights, he can log upwards of 800 sightings from his 86th floor perch on the observatory deck.
