Beware hidden hotel charges
USA Today reports on the growing list of charges hotels are adding on to your bill after you secure that bargain rate up front. Everything from $15 charges for a two-minute call (Tropicana Las Vegas,) to $40 a night parking fees (Hilton New York.) Among the advice is to use a phone card, ask about special programs, and don't bring a car: In Boston and New York, the two cities where I found the highest parking rates, a car is more of a hindrance than a help because the taxi and public transportation network is so good.
